Insights into a liberal mind

I have had a very interesting email exchange over the past few days from a liberal named 'Leesa' who runs a blog that might as well be called 'The Daily Worker Online'. The correspondence started when she decided to take me to task for some comments I had posted to her blog that she deemed unfriendly. I guess she had a point, after all, liberals are known for their friendly discourse when it comes to the issues....

In any case, apparently I have became quite the topic of discussion at Leesa's blog, and amongst her friends. While being entertained by her latest post concerning me, I came across this part directed at me:

"In fact, just to let you know... I HOPE Obama makes the U.S. a little MORE socialist.... spread the wealth a little and provide better health care for the folks in America... How's that for you!"

Now keep in mind that Leesa informed me during our correspondence that she had 'a very good education' when I questioned this during our emails. In fact, she informed me that she is a TEACHER, and has worked as an elementary school teacher in the past. To which I would ask, with statements such as above posted BY A TEACHER, is it any wonder our schools are turning out indoctrinated kids who know nothing about their history and the dangers of socialism?

But since 'Leesa' has enjoyed addressing me directly on her blog, I feel I should respond to her post directly...

Leesa, you say we should spread the wealth a little...well, Leesa, if you would like a bigger share of the wealth, then perhaps you should stop waiting for the government to take from someone what is NOT yours and give it to you, and get off your pot-smoking, tree-hugging, hippie rear-end and EARN it. This, Leesa, is AMERICA. Your success or failure has NEVER been guaranteed here, but has always been right there for the taking for those who choose to WORK for it, a fact that AS A TEACHER, I would have hoped you understood. In fact, the one positive thing I can say about Obama, is that his election actually proves this fact. I mean, a drug using, America hating, communist sympathizing liberal just got elected president....Only in America....

As for health care...When you have to wait two months to see a doctor for a common cold, come talk to me about it then. By the way, where will the rest of the world go for healthcare once we socialize our system?

Now for another pearl of wisdom from Leesa's blog:

"And, yes, I was not proud at ALL to call myself an American during 8 years of Bush's TERRIBLE leadership (lack of, therein). Very ashamed, in fact."

Leesa, while I am very unhappy with the election of Obama, I will NEVER be ashamed to call myself an American, no matter WHERE I am or WHO is president. This is the nation that gave over 400,000 lives during World War II so others could enjoy the same freedoms we have. This is the nation that rebuilt Europe, including our former enemies, AFTER World War II. This is the nation that bankrupted the Soviet Union, and allowed those TRAPPED in socialism behind a wall erected by THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT, to experience freedom after 40 years...

While America has certainly made mistakes in the world, no other nation has EVER risen to the needs of others as we have. Ronald Reagan described it best when he talked of our being a 'shining city on a hill.' Evidently, Leesa, you have been too busy whining about how you have not received 'your fair share', to realize how blessed you are to have been born in a nation such as this. No Leesa, too many of us has paid the ultimate price to defend our freedoms, and thus THEY have EARNED our right to be proud. I would never tarnish their memory, or cheapen their actions by saying I was not proud of being an American.

Leesa, our forefathers designed a system of government for us so perfect, it almost boggles the mind. Instead, you would throw out this wonderful experiment in liberty for a system that has failed everywhere it has been tried, and has led to the oppression of millions over the years. The fact that there are so many like you is scary. The fact that you are a teacher who SHOULD know our history, but instead have most likely been passing your world view on to our children is terrifying...

Isn't this interesting....

I realize this is from a UK newspaper, but I still find it interesting that we get stories such as this, which proclaims "2008 was the year man-made global warming was disproved', now...AFTER the U.S. election....

So much for the melting pot

In yet another example of a 'well-intentioned' law having unintended consequences, A Utah couple was recently forced to return a baby they had adopted. This baby was born with drugs in its system, to a mother who had already had other children removed from her home. This adoptive couple invested their time and money to nurse this child back to health, but because this child happened to be of American Indian descent, they were forced to return him under a 1978 law, the 'Indian Child Welfare Act', when the biological mother changed her mind about the adoption.

I wonder, when laws such as this are written, does ANYONE take the time to consider all the possible ramifications? This law was ostensibly written to protect American Indian children and their heritage. It made adoption of Native American children by 'non native' people much more difficult by erecting significant barriers to such an adoption.

So my question is, Even though this child will have the 'advantage' of being raised with his 'people', will this child be better off in the long run, since he has been taken from the only real parents he has known to be placed in an foster home with American Indian parents, and will eventually be returned to the very person whose behavior could have cost him his life?

The question has to be asked as well, if the situation was reversed, and a Caucasian baby was taken from its adoptive parents who happened to be of another race, simply so it could be with its 'kind', would it not be decried as racism, and condemned loudly by the media?

Sometimes, the government and its 'one size fits all' laws do not know best....

What a SHOCK...It looks like my state of Illinois may have elected a corrupt governor.... Our governor, democrat Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff were arrested today on federal corruption charges.

This could get very interesting over the next few days. Especially if it looks like any of this could go higher...

Farther down the slippery slope

In this latest example of a judge MAKING laws, district court judge Dorothy McCarter in Montana, one of the 'reddest' of the 'red' states, has issued a ruling giving its residents the 'right' to doctor assisted suicide.

Now we have the third state in the U.S. with this so-called right, but this time without any input whatsoever from its citizens.

Doctors who willingly take part in this bastardization of the medical profession, should by rights be barred from ever practicing medicine again, as it would be obvious by their actions that any Hippocratic oath they may have taken was meaningless.

My real fear, however, is the next step taken will be to FORCE doctors of whom this service is requested to comply, or risk losing their license. Anyone who thinks such a thing is impossible should know that here in Illinois, the governor of our state, Rod Blagojevich, without any 'vote' or input from the people, has forced pharmacists to issue the so-called 'morning after' abortion pill even if they have a religious or moral objection to doing so, or face legal action from the state.

If pharmacists can be forced to take part in the ending of a life, is it really so far-fetched to believe a judge or governor somewhere, looking to make a name for themselves, wouldn't try to do something similar with doctors in order to make it easier for someone to exercise their 'right' to assisted suicide?

I just wonder what kind of tragedy it is going to take to make the people who think these type of laws are wonderful to wise up and realize just what a slippery slope we are all on...

Abortion Gift Certificates?

Shortly after posting my thoughts about the lack of respect for life in the country today, I come across this article. For someone to have even thought up something this sick takes a level of depravity I have trouble even imagining.

Good News!

In the first piece of genuinely good news in what seems like a long time, it appears that Senator Saxby Chambliss has held onto his seat in Georgia. Now, if we can only keep the several 'rino' senators in line, there may actually be a SMALL chance of stopping SOME of Obama's liberal policies....

Respect for life

Like many, I was shocked to hear about the Wal-Mart employee trampled to death by a throng of shoppers anxious to get to their 'black Friday' deals when the store opened. Even more shocking was the reports of how many of them complained bitterly when it was announced that the store was closing due to the death. Hopefully, with the aid of the store security cameras, those responsible will be quickly brought to justice.

When you get right down to it, however, is this kind of behavior really THAT surprising today? How many people today that are appalled by the actions at the Wal-Mart are equally appalled by the fact that over 48 MILLION abortions have been performed since Roe Vs. Wade? How many had the same reaction to the Terri Schiavo case, and the fact that OUR courts allowed someone to be starved to death for the convenience of another? How many care that in two of our states, assisted suicide is now legal?

I would argue that as human life becomes less and less respected in our culture, that incidents such as what happened at this Wal-Mart will only become more commonplace, and less shocking to many.

I fear that too many conservatives today are too quick to put pro-life issues on the back burner. Some seem almost embarrased to hold or express this view. In my opinion, this issue goes to the core of conservative beliefs, and should be held higher than any other, and NEVER compromised on. As conservatives, we place great value in, and are quick to express our support for individual liberty. What can possibly be a bigger violation of such liberty than the legally sanctioned taking of an INNOCENT human life?

The fewer of us there are to take a strong stand on such issues, the quicker we will continue down the slippery slope we are currently on, which will lead to a future where, I fear, a life's value is ONLY judged by its usefullness or convenience to others.
